At Westerly Dental Clinic, we believe that oral health is an essential part of your overall wellness. Led by the three Capalbo brothers — Dr. Michael Capalbo, Dr. Marcus Capalbo, and Dr. Matthew Capalbo — our team brings decades of combined experience to serving patients in Westerly, Rhode Island. We take a patient-centered approach that blends gentle care, advanced dental techniques, and personalizedtreatment plans.
Our philosophy is simple: dental care should be effective, comfortable, and empowering. From routine cleanings and preventive care to restorative and cosmetic treatments, we focus on creating a positive dental experience that reduces anxiety and promotes long-term oral health. At Westerly Dental Clinic, we strive to make every visit feel welcoming, professional, and tailored to your needs, so you leave not only with a healthier smile but with confidence.
The Capalbo family has deep roots in both Rhode Island and the dental profession. The practice was founded in 1946 by Dr. P. Edward Capalbo, who served as a dentist during World War II before opening his first office on Canal Street in downtown Westerly—just above Toscano’s Men’s Shop.
In the 1970s, his two sons, Dr. Brian and Dr. Ronald Capalbo, joined their father and relocated the practice to its current home on Granite Street, now known as Westerly Dental Group. The tradition continued as Dr. Brian’s three sons—Michael, Matthew, and Marcus—became the third generation of Capalbo dentists, carrying forward a legacy built on care, trust, and community.
With the addition of the third generation, the Capalbo Dental Group expanded to serve patients in the beautiful towns of Wakefield and Wickford. Even as the practice has grown, the family remains deeply committed to the values established by Dr. P. Edward Capalbo: a warm, welcoming environment where patients are treated with respect, honesty, and genuine compassion.
For over 70 years, Capalbo Dental Group has proudly preserved the feel of a traditional family practice while embracing the latest evidence-based techniques and modern dental technologies. This balance of heritage and innovation allows the group to continue delivering exceptional care to generations of Rhode Islanders.
Dr. Michael Capalbo proudly became the first of the third generation of Capalbo dentists, continuing the family tradition established by his father and grandfather. Known affectionately by patients as “Dr. Mike,” his calm, reassuring chairside manner and genuine passion for dentistry have earned him a loyal following.
Dr. Capalbo graduated Magna Cum Laude from Providence College in 2001 and went on to earn his dental degree from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in 2006. He is committed to lifelong learning, regularly attending — and occasionally teaching — continuing education courses to remain at the forefront of modern dentistry.
Outside the office, Dr. Mike is an avid golfer, enjoys spending time at Seaside Beach Club, and loves traveling with his family.
Dr. Matthew Capalbo values delivering quality care to his patients in a calm, compassionate manner. He grew up watching both his grandfather and father dedicate their professional lives to improving their patients’ oral health, and he strives to do the same.
Dr. Matt grew up in Westerly, RI, and attended Providence College for his undergraduate degree. He went to the University of Connecticut’s School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 2007. Dr. Matt then completed a one-year residency in advanced education in general dentistry at the UCONN Health Center. He maintains his professional memberships and continuing education so as to provide the most current and evidence-based dentistry to his patients.
Dr. Matt lives in Westerly, RI with his wife and fellow dentist, Dr. Anna Capalbo, and their three children. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and rooting for the Friars.
Becoming a dentist was a lifelong dream for Dr. Marcus Capalbo. Growing up in a family of dentists, he always aspired to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, father, and brothers. Dr. Marcus is the seventh dentist in his family. His father and uncle still practice in the office founded by his grandfather in Westerly, RI.
Dr. Marcus graduated from Providence College and then attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA. At Tufts, he earned a Doctorate of Medical Dentistry degree. Following dental school, Dr. Marcus attended the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine where he completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the UConn Health Center Hospital.

Everyone was so kind, and nice. It is hard to find a new provider, and feel like you will be criticized for lack of care. Everyone was reassuring that our new journey, is off to a good start. Looking forward with working with everyone.
