West Side Dental was founded with a simple mission to create a dental practice where patients feel welcomed, respected, and genuinely cared for like family. From the beginning, our focus has been on providing exceptional dental care while building meaningful relationships rooted in trust, honesty, and personalized attention.

As dentistry evolved, so did our commitment to innovation and patient comfort. We embraced advanced technology, modern treatment techniques, and continuing education to ensure our patients receive efficient, comfortable, and high-quality care in a modern setting. At the same time, we remained dedicated to preserving the welcoming and patient-focused experience that has always defined our office.

Joseph Statkevich, DMD

Dr. Statkevich was raised in Shelton, Connecticut. He attended the University of Connecticut, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. He continued his studies at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, where he was conferred a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.

Dr. Statkevich has been practicing general dentistry in Waterbury for over 34 years. He takes great pride in the dental care he provides, establishing meaningful relationships with his patients over the years.

He is a long-standing member of The American Dental Association, The Connecticut State Dental Association, The Dental Society of Greater Waterbury, and the Academy of General Dentistry. He is also a past president of the D.S.G.W.

In his free time, Dr. Statkevich enjoys playing golf, reading, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Cheryl Sobieraj, DDS

Dr Sobieraj believes a beautiful smile can change how people feel about themselves, both physically and emotionally. Her goal is to help you find that smile and learn to maintain its health and beauty, for a lifetime.

Originally from Macedon, NY, she attended Union College for her B. S. degree and Columbia University School of College of Physicians & Surgeons for her DDS degree and residency. Dr Sobieraj maintains her professional memberships and has served on several boards and councils.

Dr Sobieraj believes community involvement is important. She has participated in Connecticut’s free dental clinic, Mission of Mercy, since 2011 acting as a provider, Board member and as lead.

She lives in Newtown, CT with her husband, Dr Sunil Wadhwa. They have four adult children in addition to three dogs, two cats, a slew of frogs, and chickens!

When she has free time, she enjoys running, hiking, and building things.
