WEST HARTFORD FAMILY DENTAL
About Our Dental Technology in West Hartford, CT
New dental technology and hi-tech diagnostic tools are changing the way that modern dentists operate. Here are some of the ways that we take our dentistry in West Hartford CT into the new millennium. Our state-of-the-art dental technology allows us to offer our patients services that are faster, better, and less intrusive than most people might imagine.
Flat-Screen TVs
To improve your experience we’ve installed a flat screen High Definition TV in each room, so you can watch satellite HDTV while your cleaning and dental work are being performed! You get the remote to choose what you want to watch!
Digital X-Rays
To improve your care we’ve invested in a new way of looking into your mouth-a procedure that’s fast, and incredibly precise – digital x-rays. Digital x-ray technology speeds and simplifies the diagnostic part of your treatment, and most importantly allows us to provide a much higher level of care.
Digital x-rays use 50-90% less radiation than old-fashioned x-rays required. The highly detailed image of your teeth on our computer screen can be rotated, magnified, and adjusted for contrast. Further, we can store it on our computer files, thus saving paper. For insurance purposes, referrals, or patient education, it can be accurately reproduced any number of times. Digital x-rays allow us to provide better quality care to our patients.
For comprehensive diagnosis and less radiation, the panoramic machine takes an x-ray of your facial aspects, including the TMJ joints and sinus area, in one picture. A panoramic x-ray is a diagnostic image that shows all of the jawbones and teeth and is typically utilized for screening purposes and in oral surgery such as wisdom tooth extractions and implant surgeries.
DIAGNOdent® Laser Cavity Detector
Our DIAGNOdent® laser cavity detector allows us to detect dental decay in its earliest stages and treat it before it compromises the integrity of the tooth. With the DIAGNOdent®, examinations are simple, quick, and painless because there is no poking or prodding of the teeth. We shine a laser light on the tooth, and the DIAGNOdent measures the amount of decay present. This allows us to decide which teeth need attention, and which teeth we can observe for any further changes. Although fluoride has greatly increased the health of our teeth, it has also created a harder enamel surface decreasing the accuracy of traditional cavity detection techniques (the explorer).
Intra-oral Camera
Using our high-resolution intra-oral camera, our patients can see their teeth magnified 40 times their normal size. Our specialized software enables us to enlarge these images, freeze them, or view them in real-time so that we can make accurate diagnoses and discover dental disease in its early stages. Areas of concern can be seen easily and clearly by both our patients and the doctor, allowing us to decide together on the best treatment for you. With enhanced visual communication, our dentists can better help you understand your treatment needs- because you are able to view the problems and treatment areas yourself. The digital image can be stored as a reference, enlarged, and printed.
Autoclave Sterilization
To protect our patients and ourselves, we strictly maintain sterilization and cross contamination processes using standards recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
All instruments and hand-pieces are sterilized with state-of-the-art Autoclave Technology. Our hospital-grade Autoclave unit is specially designed for the effective sterilization of dental instruments. It utilizes steam to sterilize; this means that all bacteria and germs will be disinfected. Proper sterilization is paramount to patient safety and allows us to carry out our work in an optimally clean environment. This technology ensures reliable, consistent and complete sterilization of instruments.
Optimal sealing and proper storage of each dental instrument are of vital importance for the protection from contamination and the overall hygiene of the clinic. Specially designed for steam sterilization, after removal from the Autoclave, each auto-sealed sterilized item is marked and dated for reference.
