CHILDREN'S DENTISTRY OF WESTERLY & WAKEFIELD

What to Expect At Your First Visit

Cute and cheerful asian child

Your first visit with your child at Children’s Dentistry of Westerly & Wakefield has two major components:

1. Parent Education about Dental Health

We provide you with the necessary information to allow you to ensure optimal dental health for your child. This includes discussing proper brushing and flossing techniques, assessing ideal topical and systemic fluoride needs, identifying any dietary issues or harmful oral habits, and other topics pertinent to your child. Our dental team prides itself on being up-to-date on all topics related to your child’s dental needs. Our 5 hygienists have been with the practice for over 50 years combined! This experience gives them a comfort level and skill in managing their child in a caring and professional manner.

2. Examining Your Child’s Teeth and Gums

We gently examine your child’s teeth and gums. Often times when the child is very young, this is achieved in a “lap to lap” fashion with the caregiver assisting the child. We may clean your child’s teeth and apply topical fluoride to help protect the teeth against decay. Digital radiographs (x-rays) may be taken to identify any tooth decay and/or to check on the progress of your child’s permanent teeth. Digital X-rays have lower radiation exposure versus traditional X-rays. We make every effort to keep this a positive introduction to the dental office for you and your child.

At your child’s consultation visit:

Every effort will be made to make sure your child’s first visit with us is a positive one!

We will do an examination, review your child’s dental needs with you, and discuss the best options to provide their needed care. If radiographs were taken by a previous dentist, you may pick them up or have them emailed to our office at [email protected]. We have a release form available for your convenience. Your dentist at Children’s Dentistry of Westerly & Wakefield will determine if additional dental X-rays are needed for diagnostic purposes. If needed, we will take those additional radiographs at this visit. This will help our team provide a comprehensive evaluation of your child’s dental needs.

For all appointments, we ask that a parent or legal guardian be present at your child’s visit.
