Meet Dr. Melvin Hanzel, DMD

Dr. Melvin Hanzel is a trusted dentist in Warwick, RI at Jefferson Dental Associates and a native Rhode Islander who began practicing dentistry with his father, Dr. Harold Hanzel, in 1979. Born in Providence and raised in Warwick, he earned his BA in Biology from the University of Rhode Island and his DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He completed a two-year residency in general practice dentistry at The Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he served as Chief Resident and later as a clinical instructor with NYU. Dr. Hanzel is on staff at Rhode Island Hospital and has been the dental consultant for the hemophilia center since 1982, and he is a member of several professional organizations including the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Dr. Hanzel has extensive training in sedation, implant, and cosmetic dentistry, as well as treating medically complex patients, with a strong background in oral surgery, root canal treatment, and internal medicine. He is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care that prioritizes comfort and individual needs, often using sedation to help patients who may have previously avoided dental treatment. His approach focuses on total oral healthcare, combining advanced techniques with a personalized touch to restore and preserve natural teeth whenever possible, including the use of overdentures and aesthetic, metal-free partials to achieve natural-looking, long-lasting results.

Meet Brian Goldstein, DDS

Dr. Brian Goldstein is a trusted periodontist in Rhode Island. Dr. Goldstein was born in St. Louis, MO, and raised in Rochester, NY. He attended dental school at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo. He then received his surgical training in Periodontology and Dental Implantology from the Richard L. Roudebush VAMC in Indianapolis, IN, and his Masters of Science in Dentistry from Indiana University. Dr. Goldstein is Board certified in Periodontology and Dental Implantology.

He believes in a comprehensive, personalized approach to dental treatment. His patients are his top priority. His favorite part of his job is communicating with them, listening to their concerns, educating them about their oral healthcare needs, linking to systemic health, and supporting and empowering them in their journey towards optimum oral health.

He currently serves as a lieutenant colonel (O5) in the US Army Reserve Component and is a Global War on terrorism veteran by providing direct operational support during Operation Inherent Resolve. He has been practicing dentistry for more than 20 years and, in that time, has served on the faculty of the following Institutions: the University of Rochester Eastman Institute of Oral Health; Yale-New Haven Hospital: and the Providence RI VAMC.

Dr. Goldstein is passionate about dental education, dental outreach, promoting healthcare literacy and community oral healthcare. When not at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children.
