About the Capalbo Family of Dentists

The Capalbo family has strong ties to Rhode Island and the dental profession. Dr. P. Edward Capalbo founded the group in 1946 after serving as a dentist during World War II. He opened his practice on Canal Street in downtown Westerly in a small office space above Toscano’s Men’s Shop. In the 1970s, his two sons Brian and Ronald joined their father and moved the practice to its current location at Westerly Dental Group on Granite Street. Dr. Brian’s three sons, Michael, Matthew, and Marcus, followed in the family’s tradition to become the third generation of dentists. 

With the third generation, the group has expanded to add offices in the beautiful towns of Wakefield and Wickford. While expanding, the Capalbo family continues the legacy left by Dr. P. Edward of providing a warm, comforting family environment where patients are treated with respect and honesty. Throughout our 70 year history, the Capalbo Dental Group is proud to have been able to maintain the old world family practice feel while also utilizing the latest evidence-based information and technologies available in dentistry. Our unwavering commitment to these core principles has enabled our group to continue to provide exceptional dental care to more Rhode Islanders.

Dr. Michael Capalbo DMD

Dr. Michael Capalbo was the first of the third generation of Capalbo dentists to follow in his father and grandfather’s footsteps. Michael’s vision and commitment have been vital to the expansion of Plum Dental. Like his father and grandfather before him, “Dr. Mike’s” calming bedside manner and passion for dentistry have earned him a loyal following.

Dr. Capalbo graduated from Providence College in 2001 Magna Cum Laude and received his dental degree from The University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in 2006. He attends (and sometimes teaches) continuing education classes to stay on the cutting edge of dentistry.

He’s an avid golfer, spends spare time at Seaside Beach Club, and enjoys traveling with his family.

Matthew Capalbo DMD

Dr. Matthew Capalbo values delivering quality care to his patients in a calm, compassionate manner. He grew up watching both his grandfather and father dedicate their professional lives to improving the oral health of their patients, and he strives to do the same.

Dr. Matt grew up in Westerly, RI, and attended Providence College for his undergraduate degree. He went to the University of Connecticut’s School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 2007. Dr. Matt then completed a one-year residency in advanced education in general dentistry at the UCONN Health Center. He maintains his professional memberships and continuing education so as to provide the most current and evidence-based dentistry to his patients.

Dr. Matt lives in Westerly, RI with his wife and fellow dentist, Dr. Anna Capalbo, and their three children. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and rooting for the Friars.

Dr Gregory Warne, DDS - Endodontist in RI

Gregory Warne, DDS

Endodontics

Dr. Gregory Warne is a graduate of Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania with a degree in Natural Sciences. He received his dental degree from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery. Dr. Warne provided dental care to our country’s veterans during a general practice residency at East Orange VA Medical Center. Dr. Warne received his endodontic training at Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery, Department of Endodontics. 

Serving the community in health related professions has long been an interest of Dr. Warne’s. This was ingrained in him during his advancement to the rank of Eagle Scout. He completed Emergency Medical Technician training during high school while serving on both his town’s emergency squad and fire department. Dr. Warne continues community service today as an instructor for CPR, and has begun re-training as a volunteer firefighter. Dr. Warne unfortunately has more hobbies than free time. He has enjoyed rappelling and rock climbing, canoeing, and hiking. Dr. Warne also enjoys spending time around the house.
